Something to Chew On: “Above and Beyond the Law”

Weekly Family Dinner & Prayer

“In the name of the Father, and of the Son…”

Read:

Blessed are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they who observe his decrees, who seek him with all their heart.

Psalm 119:1-2

The Law of the Lord, as found in the Ten Commandments, lets us know what is evil. But it’s not really enough to say, “I did not break any of the Commandments.” That’s just the minimum. Instead, we Christians are called to go higher. Not merely to say, “We did not violate the law,” but to say, “We have lived as God’s children. We have become saints!” Yes, we observe his decrees, but more importantly, we seek him with all our heart.

Discuss: In my own life, do I ever do the “minimum?” What can I do to change the way I think and believe in my heart to do more than the minimum? What basic ideas about myself will have to change if I want to become one of the saints?

“Our Father, who art in heaven…”
